My WordPress Services

Are you looking to elevate your online presence and drive your business forward? As a dedicated and experienced WordPress developer, I specialise in transforming your vision into a dynamic, user-friendly website that stands out in today’s competitive digital landscape.

Why WordPress?

WordPress is a versatile Content Management System (CMS) widely used for creating websites and blogs. Launched in 2003, it’s open-source and offers extensive customisation through numerous Themes and Plugins.

WordPress supports various website types, from simple brochure to complex e-commerce sites. It features a user-friendly interface, making it accessible to beginners while its flexibility and scalability attract developers. With a large community, it benefits from regular updates, security enhancements and a vast repository of resources.

WordPress Functionality

With over 59,000 (as of July 2024) free Plugins, WordPress offers extensive functionality for almost anything you can think of: e-commerce, membership, calendars, events, booking systems to name just a few. This makes building complex sites relatively easy and certainly affordable. Why re-invent the wheel when there’s a solution out there already?

Bespoke or Template

I can build you a completely bespoke website design for your WordPress website, something completely unique and fully integrated into WordPress so you can manage your own content. Yet there is certainly a role for using standard, off-the-shelf, templates as it makes building your site both easier and much cheaper. And those templates can be customised in any number of ways to bring a unique design to your website.

The (Potential) Hidden Costs of WordPress

The core software of WordPress is completely free, (including their Gutenburg Full Site Editor) as are the Plugins you get in the official WordPress Plugin respository. In addition there are many free themes and templates available for your site. But there can be hidden costs:

  • Some themes are not free;
  • Some website builders are not free (e.g. Divi) or their free versions have limited functionality (e.g. Elementor).

Whilst all plugins available from the official WordPress repository are free, most of these have limited functionality; you’d need to buy their ‘Pro’ version (usually an annual license) to unlock all the enhanced stuff.

The danger is that these costs can add up, turning your website into a very expensive proposition to keep it running. Whilst sometimes unavoidable (depending on a client’s requirements) I don’t believe in using paid versions as there are usually ways to avoid them, either by the use of plugins (e.g. there are free plugins that provide much of the missing functionality from the free version of the Elementor page builder), or by coding a custom solution utilising my extensive background as an analyst/programmer; sometime just a few lines of code can save you spending a small fortune.

Asking a client to pay for a ‘Pro’ version is often the easy way out, and, as stated above, is sometimes unavoidable, but it’s the last option for me. If ever there are any additional costs I will detail these with the client before beginning the project.

To date, none of my WordPress client sites that I’ve built have had to incur any additional costs.
